Tips and Tricks for the Adventurous Explorer When Travelling Solo

Traveling solo is a wonderful experience for anyone doing it for the first time. However, it can be a fairly daunting experience regardless. Knowing the tips and tricks will ensure you make the most out of any adventure you go on.

So what should you know when it comes to traveling solo for the first time? How can you make the most out of your travels so that you have the best experience possible? Here are a few tips and tricks for the adventurous explorer traveling solo for the first time.

Choose the destination

Choosing the destination is like going to be the first thing you decide upon when going on your travels. As a solo traveler, there really are so many wonderful places in the world that are worth exploring and so it’s important to figure out where you’d like to go first.

Some destinations might not be possible to visit right now due to how safe or lack of safety. Others might be too costly for you to do and might need to be saved for.

Consider a smaller trip first if it’s your first adventure as a solo traveller. Somewhere that’s relatively close by depending on what mode of transport you go on. Before you do go, it’s worth putting any of your furniture or belongings in Radical Storage, especially if you plan to be away for a while.

Be sure to pack light

Packing light is going to help greatly when it comes to going on an adventure. The last thing you want is to be lugging around heavy baggage that will only get in the way when you’re trying to navigate tourist hotspots, etc.

When packing, lay everything out for the planned trip and look to cut down the contents where you can. While it’s good to have more than not enough, there will be some destinations where you can get away with wearing clothing for a number of days, rather than having an outfit for every day of the trip.

Ideally, you don’t want more than one or two suitcases as this might cause you to struggle with transporting them from one place to another. It’s best to try and fit it all in one suitcase if you can.

Plan ahead a loose itinerary

Itineraries are great to have when it comes to traveling both solo and in groups. It’s a little more challenging when you’re in a group as often is the case that you have to cater to everyone who is on the holiday or trip.

Planning ahead with a loose itinerary as a solo traveller will help to keep things spontaneous, while also being able to tick off a few places on your to-do list.

There will be certain destinations, where you might want to be more specific on what you do. Regardless, an itinerary is definitely something to put in place so that you have some direction

Join a tour group if nervous

If you’re someone who is nervous as a first-time traveler, you don’t need to travel alone – or at least for the entirety of the trip.

Joining a tour group is always a good idea when it comes to traveling alone and do so if you feel nervous about traveling alone.

With a tour group, you’ve got the option of doing things with a group and doing other activities alone where preferred.

Trust your instincts

When it comes to traveling alone, it’s always good to be safe. Trusting your instinct and your gut is always something you should lead with. There will always be dangers present when travelling but for the most part, you can enjoy exploring without feeling threatened or vulnerable.

However, when traveling alone, consider making choices that will help ensure you’re protected and that you’re not putting yourself at risk.

Always tell loved ones where you are and where you’ll be

Off the back of the last point, you should always let your loved ones know where you are and where you’ll be. Consider providing your loved ones with your itinerary and keep those closest to you informed on where you are and where you’re heading next.

Social media is also a good way of keeping people updated but again, be careful of sharing your location online in real-time as this might invite unwanted strangers to where you are.

These tips and tricks will help ensure you stay adventurous when traveling solo this year and every year to come.
