Royal Caribbean Survey Reveals 1,000 UK Kids Excited to Include Grandparents in Their Ultimate Family Adventure

Royal Caribbean has unveiled the results of a new survey that highlights a growing trend among young holidaymakers — the desire to bring their grandparents along for the adventure. Polling 1,000 children across the UK, aged 6 to 11, the survey reveals that nearly half of kids enjoy their holidays even more when their grandparents are part of the experience.

The survey shows that 44% of children wish to travel with their grandmother, while 42% prefer to have their grandfather by their side. According to the findings, 65% of young respondents say the extra fun brought by grandparents is the main reason they want them on holiday. Beyond the laughter, children are also excited about the special memories they can create with their grandparents (49%) and the exciting activities they can enjoy together (40%).

Additionally, the survey found that over a third of kids (38%) love being spoiled with presents when traveling with their grandparents, while 37% look forward to a little extra pampering, such as extended playtime.

As multi-generational holidays continue to gain popularity, it’s clear that family adventures are becoming more about bonding, fun, and creating lasting memories across generations.

Gerard Nolan, vice president, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Royal Caribbean International, says: “We know planning family holidays can be a balancing act to ensure everyone is entertained and different family needs are being met. At Royal Caribbean, we’re proud to offer the ultimate multi-generational experience with something for everyone and without compromise. From racing waterslides and ziplines, to relaxing moments, incredible entertainment and dining options to suit every palate, every member of the family can enjoy their perfect holiday, both together and in their own way.”

Royal Caribbean Survey Reveals Kids’ Ideal Holidays Packed with Thrills and Quality Family Time

The latest survey from Royal Caribbean reveals that children’s perfect holiday would last 11 days, filled with a variety of activities to keep them entertained. With four different activities each day, that’s 44 ways to ensure non-stop fun. Top activities include swimming (67%), visiting a water park (59%), and racing down slides (54%). Kids also love exploring new destinations (45%), sampling new foods (42%), riding rollercoasters (41%), and even zip lining (24%).

Royal Caribbean’s lineup of adventures perfectly matches these desires, offering record-breaking thrills like the Category 6 waterslides on Icon Class ships and the iconic Ultimate Abyss — the tallest dry slide at sea — on Oasis Class ships. Families can also enjoy activities like zip lining while cruising to picturesque destinations or indulge in a variety of international cuisines, from Italian favorites at Giovanni’s Table to family-style American classics at Johnny Rockets.

For many kids, the ideal trip also includes perks like unlimited ice cream (14%) and endless pool time (12%). Royal Caribbean caters to these desires with poolside ice cream at Sprinkles and a variety of pools — from family-friendly options to splash zones for younger guests. And after all the fun and adventure, 45% of children prioritize quality family time, including spending over four hours a day with their grandparents.

A Digital Detox for Young Adventurers

The survey also highlights an interesting trend: 43% of kids admit they use tablets and phones less while on holiday, finding themselves too busy having fun to be glued to screens. Making new friends is another key holiday highlight for 79% of children, who cherish the new experiences and in-person connections. Royal Caribbean’s industry-leading Adventure Ocean youth program offers countless opportunities for kids to create memories without the need for digital devices.

With activities ranging from rock climbing and skydiving simulators to diverse dining experiences and world-class entertainment, Royal Caribbean provides something for every family member. Whether seeking adventure or simply relaxing together, Royal Caribbean offers unforgettable experiences for every generation to enjoy.
