Nicolas Cage’s 7M Animated Family Adventure Finds Renewed Success On Netflix 12 Years Later

Nicolas Cage has enjoyed a prominent career as one of Hollywood’s most notable actors. Cage’s long career began in 1981, but it was not until 1987’s twin hits Raising Arizona and Moonstruck that he began to earn critical renown. He would go on to star in Face/Off, National Treasure, Ghost Rider, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and his most recent hit, Longlegs. Cage is also poised to lead the Spider-Man spin-off Spider-Noir, a TV show about a private investigator who also happens to be a superhero.

Cage has undoubtedly been a uniquely prolific star, but his constant work has not limited his performances. He has earned two Academy Award nominations and won one for his work in Leaving Las Vegas. He was also nominated for two British Academy Film Awards, five Golden Globe Awards (including a win for Leaving Las Vegas), and two Critics’ Choice Awards. His success comes as a result of his willingness to star in a variety of genres, including horror, action, romance, and comedy. His recent family-friendly animated franchise has proven to be one of his mainstays.

The Croods Is Now A Hit On Netflix

It Earned Sixth Place On The U.S. Charts

While Cage has starred in many serious movies, The Croods was anything but. The family-friendly comedy film starred Cage as Grug Crood, an overprotective father working desperately to keep his family alive in the prehistoric era. The star-studded ensemble cast included Emma Stone (Eep Crood), Ryan Reynolds (Guy), Catherine Keener (Ugga Crood), Clark Duke (Thunk Crood), and more. It proved to be a success with a $587 million run at the box office, earning a 2020 sequel, The Croods: A New Age, and two TV spin-offs, Dawn of the Croods and The Croods: Family Tree.

It Is An Odd Resurgence After A Full Decade

All the Croods gathered and looking up in wonder in The Croods 2: A New Age

The 2013 movie’s return to prominence comes at a quiet period in the franchise’s history. Its TV series, The Croods: Family Tree, has come to an end, and there has been no official confirmation of The Croods 3. At the moment, it is not yet known if another show or movie will ever be produced, but the franchise’s renewed success on Netflix could indicate its potential. If Cage and the other stars agree to return for a new The Croods movie, then the possibilities are endless. Unfortunately, it will likely be years before a threequel ever reaches theaters.
