Our recent stay at The Fairmont Empress Hotel was nothing short of magical, offering a blend of historic grandeur and thoughtful touches that made our family vacation truly unforgettable.

The moment we walked into The Fairmont Empress, we felt enveloped in a warm embrace of elegance and history.

The hotel’s grand lobby set the stage for what would be an exceptional stay. For our little ones, the Empress added a touch of whimsy right from the start—play tents were set up in our room, transforming it into a delightful hideaway where their imaginations could run wild.

These tents, with their soft, plush interiors, quickly became a favorite retreat for our kids after a day filled with adventure.

One of the best parts of staying at The Fairmont Empress is how easy it is to explore Victoria without having to worry about parking or driving. We parked our car for the weekend and set out on foot to discover the city’s many treasures.

Just a short stroll from the hotel, we visited IMAX Victoria, where the kids were captivated by the stunning documentary on Blue Whales.

Next we wandered through the boutique shops of Government Street, stocking-up on Murchie’s Tea, which is a must-try, along with adorable Hatley clothes for the kids and sustainable apparel from Ecologyst.

One of our boys’ highlights was hopping on the iconic water taxis right across from the Empress.

It’s a scenic and quick way to get to Fisherman’s Wharf. We enjoyed exploring the lively wharf, sampling fresh seafood, and browsing through quirky shops.

It was the perfect way to experience Victoria’s vibrant waterfront.

Afternoon tea at the Empress is a highlight we look forward to with every visit to The Empress. The tradition of High Tea here is more than just a meal; it’s an experience.

From flaky scones and truffle mushroom quiche to caramel and pear macarons, this ritual of afternoon tea has been going on at The Empress for over a century!

The live piano music, the breathtaking views of the bay, and the exquisite teas and treats made it a truly special occasion. Our kids especially loved the “Prince and Princess” trays of goodies—it was a magical touch that made them feel like royalty.

For an outdoor dining option, The Veranda patio was perfect. We gathered there for bites and drinks, enjoying the relaxed atmosphere and the fantastic views. It was a lovely way to spend our evenings, savoring local flavors and watching the boats go by.

Before heading back to the ferry, we made sure to visit Beacon Hill Park, and it was the perfect finale to our trip. The park is a beautiful expanse of gardens, playgrounds, and wildlife.

We marveled at the peacocks, fed the friendly squirrels, and spotted deer roaming freely. The gardens were a feast for the eyes, with vibrant flowers and serene paths that made our strolls feel like a walk through a storybook.
