Napa Valley, CA – May 6, 2025 – When Clif Family Winery founders Kit Crawford and Gary Erickson did their first cycling journey through Italy, they embraced the tradition of long leisurely lunches and a relaxed lifestyle after a day of adventure.

Clif Family Winery Captures the Spirit of Italian Adventure with New Lower Alcohol Wines

They are excited to announce the launch of Vino del Pranzo, a new line of lower alcohol wines inspired by their experiences and designed for those who want vibrant flavors with a lighter touch.

“I remember thinking what a great way to relax and unwind after a day of exploration,” says Kit Crawford, reflecting on her early Italian experiences, where long scenic rides led to delicious meals with lower alcohol wines and lifelong memories. “Vino del Pranzo was born from our love of adventure and our passion for great wine. We wanted to capture that same spirit in every bottle.”

Vino del Pranzo, which means “lunch wine” in Italian, debuts with two exceptional, 100% organically farmed wines from the Clif Family Valle di Sotto Estate vineyard in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley. The wines will be available from the winery and in select wholesale markets.

  • 2024 Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc – 8.5% ABV is a bright and refreshing, fruit-forward wine that is an ideal choice for brunches, picnics, and sunny day celebrations. Suggested retail price is $25.
  • 2022 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon – 12.5% ABV is an elegant and balanced wine that is effortlessly food-friendly. Suggested retail price is $60.

Crafted by winemaker Laura Barrett, these wines showcase the vibrant fruit character and balanced acidity for which Napa Valley’s Oak Knoll District is known. Through thoughtful vineyard practices and careful winemaking decisions, Vino del Pranzo delivers full flavor and enjoyment with a lighter alcohol expression.

“This is one of the most exciting wine projects I’ve worked on,” said Winemaker Laura Barrett. “Kit and Gary had a very clear vision of the style and flavor profile they wanted to capture, which gave me a roadmap for testing and learning. Above all, I wanted to create a vibrant and fruit-driven wine, and I feel we found the sweet spot for flavor and texture.”

While Vino del Pranzo was inspired by Kit and Gary’s Italian adventures, the rise of lower alcohol wines reflects a growing trend toward mindful consumption and wellness. As more and more consumers seek out options that support their balanced lifestyles, Clif Family stays true to its mission since its founding more than 20 years ago: creating meaningful ways for people to enjoy food, wine and friends.

“Some of my fondest memories are the ones that are most low-key, shared with friends over a glass of wine,” Kit continued. “Our hope is that Vino del Pranzo gives people a way to create their own memories, no matter the occasion.”
